Founded in 1918 by Harold M. Lane and Samuel A. Lerner, New York & Company, Inc. (NY&C) is a retailer for women. It is an American company mainly renowned for wear-to-work products for women. They sell their products which include accessories, apparel etc. through a chain of retail stores spread across the nation. They also sell them using e-commerce sites. Their flagship store, as well as their headquarters, are both located on Lexington Avenue and 58th Street. The company is known to have changed its name quite a few times. In the year of 1992, the name was changed to Lerner New York. In 1995 the company assumed the name of New York & Company. It was since the year 2004 that the company began trading publicly.In 1918, the Lerner brothers who were manufacturers of blouse first opened the very first Lerner store in New York City. Eighteen more followed that year. 1930 saw the opening of the first shop on the West coast of the US. Limited Brands managed to purchase the company in the year 1985. The company is once again purchased in the year of 2002 by Bear Stearns Merchant Banking. It was after this purchase that New York & Company became a company that was independent. They launched their online site in the year 2006. Their Outlet division is launched four years later in 2010. Between the years of 2012 and 2013, various new launches are handled namely that of NY&C Beauty (which went on to include lip, nail, fragrance products) as well as the Eva Mendes Collection.
