Moviepass, Inc. is a movie ticketing service that is subscription based. This company was founded back in 2011 with its headquarters in New York City. Their service is a unique one allowing the purchase of movie tickets (maximum of three per month) to their subscribers. They utilize the option of creating a mobile app to enable users to check into a cinema and subsequently choose the show and the timing of their choice. This results in the ticket price being loaded onto a debit card that is prepaid, which is what is used to purchase the movie ticket from the cinema. Their pricing structure is known to have gone through various revisions and re-revisions. Initially offering 2 to 3 films a month and “unlimited plans” with market size based pricing, the August of 2017 saw them offering a revised plan with one film a day being priced at $9.95/ month. This change was a result of the acquisition by an analytics firm of a majority stake in MoviePass. They wanted to widen the reach of the service so as to enable it to collect more information regarding the viewing habits of the customers. Their modal change resulted in an even greater success than before resulting in the bringing in of higher numbers of customers as well as a higher number of subscribers ( reaching 2 million as of February 2018). They even began a brand new subsidiary, namely, MoviePass Ventures which would enable them to acquire as well as distribute films.
