Founded back in 1993, Mountain Hardware is a California based company known to manufacture gloves, tents, backpacks, outdoor clothing, sleeping bags etc. In 2003, it was purchased by Columbia Sportswear. This company’s current headquarters are situated in California (Richmond). In the year 1993, a collective group of people formerly employed at Sierra Designs founded Mountain Hardware. Soon after, they sponsored renowned athlete Ed Viesturs, the famous American who climbed all of the fourteen peaks which boast of being 8000 metres high. He subsequently went on to help the company develop many of the company products. Ed Viesturs does not endorse their equipment anymore. The company is known to have over 35 sales representatives and associates all across the United States and in other countries as well. Just their California office is known to employ over 90 people. They are known in history for quite a few innovations. In the timeline of their company, they pioneered the Windstopper fleece in the year 1996. 1997 saw them introducing to their customers Storm Light breathable/ waterproof membrane. In the year 1999, they first used welded technology in apparel. Their tent was the one slept in overnight at the summit of Mount Everest by Babu Chiri Sherpa, the very first person to undertake and succeed at such a deed. They developed the Windstopper next-to-skin garment fabric with Gore in 2001. They also pioneered DryQ breathable and waterproof fabrics as well as the OutDry 3D technology of 3D lamination for gloves. In 2011, they introduced to their consumers the Ghost Whisperer, a jacket that is down insulated. It is made of an ultra light ripstop fabric.
